The strains of music I overhead last Friday surprised me. It emanated from the vicinity of El Modena High's Nature Center.
The bustling excitement punctuated often by staccato voices and musical instruments transformed this little quiet corner of campus into a hive of activity.
Over by the southern corner of the center, just beyond the baseball diamond, puffs of dust rose occasionally when a excited dancer kicked their feet or pirouetted during a routine.
About 200 students wandered about stopping to take in displays of ceramic mugs filled with succulents, displays of handcrafted masks and digital photography and artwork.
It was a privilege to be invited to be part of this festival. I dispatched all 4 of my photography students to the Nature Center with cameras. Their assignment: capture the ambience of the festival, show what they saw, felt and then share their findings in a blog post .
